Outward Bound Oman Opens its Third National Training Centre in Al Jabal Al Akdhar

An opening ceremony was held today to announce the opening of Outward Bound Oman’s third national outdoor training center in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar. The ceremony was held under the auspices of H.E Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education,  and attended by H.E Salim bin Nasser AL Aufi Undersecretary of Ministry of Energy and Minerals.

The Construction of OBO Centre comes under Ministry of Energy and Minerals CSR initiative with a contribution from Petroleum Development Oman, Occidental Oman, BP Oman, OQ, Daleel Petroleum, and CC Energy Development. Occidental Oman has managed the establishment of the centeron behalf of all companies. The Centre was completed within 2 years with a total cost of 2 million OMR after an MOU was signed with CSR corporates in 2019.

The Centre containing two fully equipped learning rooms, a 60-seater AV theatre, four outdoor learning pods, equipment stores, prayer rooms and accommodation offers unique experiential learning and training courses to a wide variety of groups, including school and university students, organizations, government institutes and private companies.

In line with Oman future energy policy, the Centre, which was built in high international standards, utilizes renewable energies by uses of 164 solar panels and 3 micro-wind turbines and 10 solar powered LED street-lights. LED lights, and timer switches for both taps and lights throughout the Centre.    This will not only reduce energy consumption but will reflects the Energy sector role in applying the renewable energy resources in their projects. It will also contribute to minimizing its environmental impact.

His Excellency Salim bin Nasser AL Aufi Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals stated we are pleased to announce the opening of the third branch of Outward Bound Oman in AL Jabal Al Akhdar as part of the Ministry’s initiative for social responsibility and with generous support from oil and gas companies where this branch complements the previous two branches in Wilayat of AL Qabil in the North Governorate of Al Sharqiyah and  Al Khoud area in the Governorate of Muscat to meet the needs of young people and hone their skills and expertise.

The Centre will operate all year round, training not just young people but also the emerging talent and leadership teams from within the private and government sectors. It is estimated that more than 1,500 people will pass through the Centre in its first full year of operation.

The Outward Bound Oman Foundation (Oman Challenge) builds its long-term strategy in four main priorities, the first is to strengthen the focus on the quality and feasibility of work, and to increase the number of people who benefit from its courses, by efficiently using the new national training centers. Second, to provide Innovative courses related to the needs of government organizations and individuals. These courses are provided by experienced trainers who receive support from an efficient and effective administrative team. Third, to make the work of Outward Bound Oman Foundation clear and understandable to the community, and to be a foundation known as an experience and a valuable investment. Fourth, ensuring that the foundation is sustainable through continuous and rigorous financial supervision, transparent management, and linked to the national goals.
