The Extension of MOU in the field of crude oil, natural gas and clean energy & MOU in the field of Hydrogen, Fuel Ammonia and C- recycling including methanation Between Oman & Japan

Stemming from the distinguished relations between the Ministry of Energy & Minerals of Oman and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, and the desire of both countries to promote and develop mutual cooperation in the field of hydrogen, fuel ammonia and Carbon Recycling including Methanation and, in light of the discussions concluded between the Omani and Japanese sides, this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is made between the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, represented by  Mr. Yasutoshi Nishimura –Minister of  Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of Energy and Minerals of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by H.E Er. Salim Nasser Al Aufi-Minister of Energy and Minerals.

The MOU aims to achieve the objectives stipulated hereunder:

  1. Accelerate Japan - Oman energy and resources cooperation.
  2. Acknowledge the continued role and contribution of the Sultanate of Oman to Japan’s energy security.
  3. Explore cooperation for the development of Hydrogen, Fuel Ammonia and Carbon Recycling including Methanation, in Japan and the Sultanate of Oman.
  4. Support efforts within multilateral fora to accelerate cooperation for Hydrogen, Fuel Ammonia and Carbon Recycling technologies including Methanation worldwide.
  5. Exchanging information and research results on Hydrogen, Fuel Ammonia and Carbon Recycling including Methanation.
  6. Convening meetings of various forms (e.g., workshops, trade missions, site visits and working groups) to discuss and exchange information on Hydrogen, Fuel Ammonia and Carbon Recycling including Methanation.
  7. Exploring the possibilities for relevant co-operation between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman in the fields mentioned herein.

The third extension of memorandum of understanding is signed between the Ministry of Energy and Minerals in the Sultanate of Oman and Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security in the field of crude energy, natural gas and clean energy.

Whereas the Parties signed the Memorandum on 9 January 2014 confirming their mutual intention and desire to promote and develop cooperation between them in the field of crude oil, natural gas and clean energy development on the basis of reciprocal benefits, they wish to further enhance cooperation between them under the Memorandum.

Therefore, the parties have further extended the term of the Memorandum from 9 January 2023 for a period of three (3) years, adding the collaboration towards commercial and technical issues pertaining the clean energy.

Other provisions of Memorandum which have not been amended by this extension shall remain intact and in force.
