Pact Signed for Green Hydrogen Certification Pilot Project

His Excellency the Minister of Energy and Minerals meets the Vice President of the European Commission and the Belgian Minister of Energy

During his visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, met separately with Vice-President of the European Commission and H.E. Van der Straeten, Minister of Energy of Belgium, in the presence of Ru'aa Issa Al Zadjali, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union, as well as the delegation accompanying him.

During the meetings, they explored ways to enhance collaboration and cooperation with the European Commission in the regulatory frameworks for clean hydrogen production and transportation projects.

The meeting additionally investigated opportunities to broaden current collaboration with the Kingdom of Belgium in the areas of green hydrogen production, transportation, and storage projects.

H.E. the Minister of Energy and Minerals additionally signed an agreement for the Duqm Highport Green Hydrogen Certification Pilot Project with the Belgian Minister of Energy. The Pact's target is to examine the readiness of green hydrogen production projects in Oman to meet necessary European Union requirements, paving the way for future green hydrogen exports to European markets.

During the visit, a series of specialized workshops were held between the European Commission, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Kingdom of Belgium. The workshops covered the general framework for hydrogen certification and investment prospects in supply chains, as well as highlighting Belgium's plans and projects to convert to hydrogen and the European Commission's initiatives to promote investment in this sector.
