Memorandum of Understanding on Green Transformation Between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Korea

Based on the distinguished relations between the two countries, the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and the Republic of Korea, represented by the Ministry of Environment, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of green transformation. Such agreement represents the countries desire to strengthen and develop cooperation in this field. Following the discussions made between both parties, MoU has been entered into.  The signatories include H.E. Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al-Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, on the part of the Sultanate of Oman, and H.E. Han, Wha-jin, Minister of Environment, on the part of the Republic of Korea.

The objective of the MoU is to enhance comprehension of green transformation policies and technologies between both countries, encourage and discuss various aspects of cooperation between government and industrial entities, as well as research organizations.  Additionally, the agreement seeks to support efforts in joint forums around the world to accelerate cooperation in the field of green transformation policies and technologies. The bilateral commitment extends to areas such as green transformation policies and programs, sustainable technologies for environment to  produce, store, distribute, and consume the green energy.
Furthermore, both parties foster capacity-building to address climate-related challenges, industries pivotal to green transformation, research and development endeavors undertaken by the respective entities of both countries, education and awareness initiatives pertaining to green transformation, and diverse spheres that bolster the green transformation.

In line with the steps taken to achieve zero carbon neutrality in 2050, the Sultanate of Oman is following strategic plans aimed at energy transition. This pathway seeks to reduce carbon emissions, achieve a balance between sustainable development, mitigate the impacts of climate change, harness clean technology, and diverse energy sources. The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is actively fostering the establishment of both domestic and international companies that contribute to achieving its directions towards green energy. This initiative is in consonance with the national strategy, designed to facilitate a systematic transition towards carbon neutrality. Already, strides have been taken through the initiation of clean energy projects, as exemplified by the introduction of investment packages for green hydrogen.
